Why choose a certified adviser?

Only proven, experienced advisers

By choosing a certified adviser, you can be assured you are receiving the best nutrient management advice. You can have confidence that nutrient management reports prepared by a certified adviser are based on the best information available and meet quality standards.

To become certified, nutrient management advisers need to have:

  • demonstrated they have appropriate qualifications, or equivalent field experience, with a suitable training record on a range of subjects prescribed by NMACP
  • successfully completed the Intermediate and Advanced courses in Sustainable Nutrient Management in New Zealand Agriculture via Massey University
  • passed a competency assessment to demonstrate their skills and knowledge meet required standards.

Once certified, advisers must:

  • work to the NMACP Code of Ethics and Rules of Conduct
  • complete a minimum of 15 hours of continuing professional development each year to maintain their certification
  • make nutrient management reports available for auditing purposes.

In addition, some certified advisers have endorsement as greenhouse gas advisers, following completion of Massey University's three-day course 'An introduction to New Zealand's Agricultural Green House Gas Emissions and Management'.

Up-to-date knowledge and expertise

Nutrient management in New Zealand is regularly evolving as farmers focus on nutrient efficiency and as individual regional councils specify environmental requirements.

We produce new modules for advisers to keep up with these changes and developments. This ensures advisers maintain a high standard of current knowledge.

Nutrient management reports prepared by certified advisers are regularly audited to ensure their advice is meeting the high standards we expect of them.

Strict code of ethics and conduct

Choosing a certified adviser protects your business and your decisions as all certified advisers are bound by a Code of Ethics and Rules of Conduct which set out the standards required of them when engaging with clients and third parties.

However, if you have any concerns that best industry practice has not been followed, you can make a formal complaint.
